Herbals and Tinctures

As a whole, the cannabis plant from seeds to roots to stems, leaves and flowers, can all be transformed and utilized in various ways to create effective, safe, natural medicines, therapeutic foods and herbal health products.

These medicines and products can take on a host of different appearances and methods of use or ingestion.

In addition to the traditional methods of smoking; dried cannabis flowers/buds can be vaporized, made into edibles, oils, tinctures, lotions, and just about anything else your mind can imagine.

Each delivery method provides unique benefits based on
-the strain type used
-the amount of raw plant material added
-the processes applied throughout production of the product.

For me, the true beauty of cannabis lies within its ability to be used so diversely.

The Great Cannabis debate: Heating vs. Eating

·     One of my favorite cannabis nutrition pioneers, Dr. William Courtney has discovered:

        1. Smoking cannabis doesn’t treat the disease, only the symptoms
·         2. Therapeutic levels of beneficial compounds (cannabinoids) can only be achieved through ingestion (not smoking)
·         3. When cannabis is heated or burned, the chemical structure of the plant compounds are changed- specifically the acidity of THC which alters its ability to be therapeutic.
·         4. Raw cannabis activates the brain’s cannabinoid system which triggers an antioxidant release
·         5. These antioxidants act as a “cleaner” removing damaged cells from the body
·        6.  Raw cannabis improves the efficiency of the cells in our body
·         7. Creating oils, butters or eating the raw plant is the only way to get the necessary beneficial compounds

Tips and recommendations for incorporating more “Green” into your daily diet

Raw cannabis can be used every day, multiple times a day by anyone of any age.
Raw cannabis is NOT psychoactive unless it is heated meaning there no worries of mental or physical impairment after consuming.
Raw cannabis can be added to smoothies, juices, or salads.
Like any other herb or seasoning, ground up raw buds can be sprinkled on top of soups, stews, oatmeal, yogurt or pudding.
Juicing specifically, takes a lot of material, Dr. Courtney suggests 20-30 big shade leaves or 2-3 raw buds (2-3" in length) per day for therapeutic benefits.

Having your own garden at home is helpful as access to this quantity of raw product may be difficult or illegal in your state.
